Skin Care Myths Vs Health facts
(source: Pinterest)
Is toothpaste an effective treatment for a bad pimple? Will saturating the skin in hot water actually open the pores? Here are some health facts to dispel typical skin care fallacies.
MYTH 1: TOOTHPASTE WORKS WONDERS FOR ACNE SPOTS.
While most toothpaste contains drying chemicals such as alcohol or menthol, over-drying and irritation are typical when it is applied to the skin. Ingredients that combat acne, such as benzoyl peroxide or salicylic acid, are more effective and safer options.
MYTH 2: "NATURAL" (CHEMICAL-FREE) PRODUCTS ALWAYS OUTPERFORM.
Fact: The optimal product for each individual is determined by their skin type and personal preferences. It is always important to get the counsel of a skincare specialist before incorporating any new skincare product into your current skincare regimen.
MYTH 3: YOU CAN NEVER WASH YOUR SKIN ENOUGH.
Fact: Washing your face is critical. It is possible, though, to overdo it. Excessive cleaning might cause irritation and dryness. Concentrate on washing twice a day (morning and night) using a high-quality cleanser that is devoid of color and scent ingredients.
MYTH 4: THE HEAVIER YOU EXFOLIATE, THE BETTER.
Exfoliation is beneficial to the skin. However, exfoliation should never be avoided. We advise patients to err on the side of caution and exfoliate only 2-3 times each week. Exfoliation should not be viewed as a quick fix, but rather as a constant and long-term aspect of your regimen.
MYTH 5: HOT WATER ACTIVATES THE PORES.
Exposure to water at any temperature might cause the pores to open. In reality, your pores are completely temperature insensitive. Overexposure to hot water can induce swelling of the dermis (the skin's outer layer), making the pores look larger. They are not, in fact! Instead, while cleaning the skin, use warm water.
